Sen. Barack Obama will give his acceptance speech tonight at Invesco Field -- previously known as Mile High Stadium -- on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech."

Aboard a campaign plane to Denver yesterday, Obama's chief strategist told Politico that Obama "is drawing inspiration for his acceptance speech Thursday night from three past convention speeches: those of Bill Clinton in 1992, Ronald Reagan in 1980 and John F. Kennedy in 1960."

Said David Axelrod: "The speech is substantially written, but as with all Obama speeches he will be refining it and buffing it up right to the end."

"Obama began thinking about the speech before he left for vacation in Hawaii and has been working it intermittently ever since, Axelrod said, sometimes with speechwriters, other times alone in a Chicago hotel room. He writes longhand on a legal pad, types his notes into a computer and circulates drafts among his staff."

The Washington Post sets expectations: "Succeed here... and Obama's speech will be remembered as one of the most powerful moments in modern politics, a perfect launch into the final stage of the general election. Fail, and Obama risks fueling Republicans' criticism that he is an aloof celebrity, fond of speaking to big crowds but incapable of forming genuine connections."

Rangel Steered Campaign Money to Son more»»
Embattled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) steered nearly $80,000 in campaign cash to a company run by his son to develop web sites, according to Politico.

The sites were "so poorly designed an expert estimated one should have cost no more than $100 to create."

Obama Had a $400 Million Edge more»»
The final presidential fundraising reports are in and Barack Obama's campaign raised roughly $745 million for his 2008 presidential campaign, ABC News reports.

By comparison, Sen. John McCain raised roughly $320 million, including the $84 million from entering into the public financing system.

However, when money raised by the national parties is taken into account, the Democrats likely raised closer to one billion dollars, compared to roughly $630 million for the Republicans. Which means Obama had, approximately, a $400 million advantage over McCain.

Matthews in Talks with NBC News more»»
Hardball host Chris Matthews is in contract talks with NBC News, according to Michael Calderone.

"What's still unclear is whether the current talks are to renew his contract ahead of schedule -- as the network recently did with Keith Olbermann last month -- or to break it, in order to start early on a Senate campaign in Pennsylvania."

Hutchison Looking at Texas Gubernatorial Bid more»»
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) launched a committee to explore a run for Texas governor in 2010, the Austin American Statesman reports. She would likely challenge current Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) in a GOP primary.

Early chatter: "She'll endeavor to raise millions of dollars by the end of the 2009 legislative session so that her state kitty looks as strong as the one held by Perry. The unconfirmed word is she's going to transfer $1 million up front from her federal campaign treasury to get the state effort rolling. And the special twist, for her, is that she may legally raise money during the session. State law forbids state elected officials including Perry, from doing so during the session."

Meanwhile, the Dallas Morning News suggests Karl Rove is advising Hutchison.
