Organized criminal networks have penetrated portions of the international energy market and tried to control energy resources, Attorney General Michael Mukasey warned. Mukasey said similar efforts have targeted financial systems, and he vowed to beef up U.S. efforts to fight international organized crime, calling it a growing threat to U.S. security.

A Georgia military contractor tricked law enforcement agencies into buying faulty stun grenades, which ultimately left three FBI agents seriously injured, federal prosecutors said today. Pyrotechnic Specialties Inc. is accused of relabeling and selling "flash-bang" grenades that the U.S. military rejected after its personnel were injured.
